NORMA KISKAN – DIPLOMA

A flat steel skeleton with fabric elements unfolds elegantly in one move. The right steel side swings open, carrying the left side along with it. Followed by a fabric cushion sliding down from its vertical position to create a platform to sit.
RHIMA is a folding chair that evolved from the idea of using fabric and its characteristics as one of its main elements. My motivation was to design a folding chair that does not compromise on aesthetics or comfort in order to be foldable. I tested out different methods of folding and assembling to make it as small as possible. RHIMA consists of bent steel tubes connected by 4 elements which also function as hinges. The padded seating can be easily removed and exists either with a closed or open back.
