„was wäre wenn“ deals with the further processing of existing furniture—specifically with chair series from the 1990s that were produced in large quantities by Austrian furniture manufacturers like „Wiesner Hager“ or „Braun Lockenhaus“. For decades, these chairs were used in public spaces such as waiting areas in doctors‘ offices, universities, schools, or seminar rooms before being replaced and offered on the second-hand market. Despite their high quality and durability, they are now considered aesthetically outdated and are often replaced with new furniture.

The goal of this project is to bring these often overlooked chairs into a contemporary design and functional context, not through complete disassembly, but through targeted adaptation, deconstruction, and revision.

This approach not only creates a resource-conscious concept that rethinks existing series but also enables serial implementation beyond individual pieces. In this way, a new perspective is opened up on supposedly outdated furniture. It is not only environmentally friendly but also resource-efficient.
